History writeup

Basic world concepts
Larvae: Mindless, humanlike monsters that come out at night (or in dark locations). They attack humans and steal their souls (usually by biting them on the neck). They look like humans with slit pupils and red irises, and have a mark on their neck that looks like a spider. Larvae heal instantly from any injuries (except those caused by blessed silver weapons, or lux magic) and do not age or decay. In the series it is revealed that if someone becomes a larva after their death and is able to resist taking human souls they are able to retain their sense of self.

Argent Cavaliers: Knights under the rule of the House of Lemuria, they use blessed silver weapons to fight larvae throughout the country.

The Grim Reaper: a powerful magician who lived 200 years before the start of canon, he discovered that by powering his soul with the souls of other people he could become immortal. He created larvae to attack humans, steal their souls, and bring them to him.

Lemuria: the younger sister of the Grim Reaper, a powerful magician with light and healing magic. She rejected her brother's offer of immortality and created the argent cavaliers and armed them with blessed silver weapons.

The House of Lemuria: descendants and priests of Lemuria, they rule the country that the series is set in. They use healing and light magic (called "lux") and all have silver hair and green eyes.

Lignis: red flowers that absorb the soul from dead things (plants or animals) and can be found growing on graves. Larvae who retain their sense of self can absorb soul energy from lignis flowers to stave off the need to take souls.

Elezione: worshipers of the Grim Reaper, they sacrifice six humans souls to him in exchange for being healed from disabling injuries.

Lateo: magic users, latio serve the Grim Reaper and he grants them immortality. Latio do not have human souls.

Cyan's history
When Cyan was a child his parents were argent cavaliers under the service of the house of Lemuria. His mother was killed protecting Cyan when larvae attacked their town, and then about two years later there was another larvae attack on his town. This time, the youngest member of the House of Lemuria, Lady Reinette, was there visiting. Despite them both being like, ten years old, Reinette was absolutely determined to fight back, and her determination gave Cyan strength and determination to fight back as well. However, despite Renette using lux magic and destroying a larvae and Cyan grabbing a sword from a fallen cavalier and killing another larvae, Cyans father was still killed in the attack.

Sitting by Cyan's parents grave, Reinette turned to him and announced her intention to become stronger, and asked Cyan to become stronger with her. Become my shield, become my sword, and I will also become your shield and sword.

Skip forward a few years and Cyan is a cavalier and Reinette has been improving her magical abilities to fight alongside the cavaliers. The Grim Reaper himself (after 60 years of hiding) launches an attack against the capital city in an attempt to destroy the barrier protecting it from attack. He's chased off, but not before a larva steals Reinette's soul and the Grim Reaper stabs Cyan through the chest with his scythe, killing him.

As Cyan dies, he sees a vision of Lady Lemuria. She offers to bring him back to life in exchange for something very important to him. Of course, he accepts. After all, he has to save the girl he's in love with Lady Reinette! He's brought back to life, the Grim Reaper is chased off, and Cyan is tasked with bringing back Reinette's soul before it's consumed.

And that's where things start to go terribly wrong. As he chases down the Grim Reaper and his larvae, Cyan is abruptly attacked by a man with a silver spear and the mark of the Grim Reaper on his neck. After Cyan fights the man off, he informs him that Cyan has actually become a larva as well, that the vision of Lemuria he saw when he died was actually the Grim Reaper in disguise, and that the "something very important" he gave away was his soul. The man says he'll kill Cyan before Cyan gives in to the compulsion to eats souls and becomes a mindless husk, but Cyan insists that he needs to save Reinette, and he won't let anyone kill him until he saves her.

The man (revealed to be Jade Lemuria, who "died" in an attack against the capital 60 years ago) is convinced by Cyans determined shonen protag approach and agrees not to kill Cyan unless it becomes necessary.

Cyan and Jade track down the Grim Reaper that night, and rescue Reinette's soul, which Cyan returns to her. However, during the fight to recapture Reinette's soul, the Grim Reaper reveals that using magic uses up your soul and shortens your life (which is why he needs to collect and use up so many souls). So Cyan decides that instead of staying by Reinette's side he's going to go with Jade to hunt down and kill the Grim Reaper, that way Reinette will never have to use her magic to fight, and won't burn up her soul. It's all very romantic.

Cyan and Jade go on a quest to find more information about the Grim Reaper's activities, tracking down the rumor of an "elezione", a human who offers six human sacrifices to the Grim Reaper in hopes that the Grim Reaper will restore an injured part of their body. Luckily for them, everyone in the town already knows who the elezione is, a sculptor whose arm was injured in an accident shortly before the murders started! Yeah no, his arm has already been healed up, time for Cyan and Jade to do more detective work. Surprise it was the sculptor, he'd actually been injured in the accident in a way that caused him to go blind, but while Cyan and Jade were running around he managed to kill the sixth human sacrifice and was taken away magically to the Grim Reaper's hideout.

Cyan, Jade, and Bright (another larva, who'd been working with Jade for a few decades) then start looking for the elezione's partner (since most elezione are disabled, they need someone to help them collect the human sacrifices). They manage to track that person down, and she reveals that she is a lateo, an immortal magic user who serves the Grim Reaper. She escapes, and Cyan and his group flee the city because the cavaliers are looking for Cyan (because they think he defected).

Then it's time for some cute team-establishing fluff as Jade takes Cyan back to the team's hiding place and we meet most of the rest of the cast. So we've got Cyan (determined shonen protag, the knight in a knight/princess romance), Jade (who is... jaded, and also a huge flirt who hits on all the ladies), Bright (excited, canon bi, a foreigner from fantasy Japan), Elena (darling small child who's a little... off, she's a Literal Child she does not go on adventures), Rosa (like!! omg!!! she used to be a cavalier too!!! she's very pink), and Aster (he has a Scene Kid Haircut).

They set out, determined to track down more elezione and lateo in hopes of being able to get to the Grim Reaper through them, and this is where I'm taking Cyan from because I do not want to continue writing out an entire history section.
